Part hourglass, part time capsule, the sand has been raining down upon the floor of Meadowcroft Rockshelter in Avella, Pa., for the last 16,000 years. And those sand layers have revealed their secrets.

VERO BEACH - Now that the Old Vero Ice Sites Committee has raised almost $100,000, an excavation at the archeological site near the Vero Beach Municipal Airport could happen this spring. "We could afford to do a three-month dig," said committee chairman Susan Grandpierre. "It would cost less than $100,000, and we would need an additional $50,000 to get us through the year."
